What the counts tell you

  • Repetition. If a word you didn't mean to stress is near the top, vary it or cut it.
  • Topics and keywords. The most frequent meaningful words show what a text is really about, which is useful for summaries, tags and SEO.
  • Style habits. Most writers have favorite words they overuse without noticing.

Options

  • Skip common words leaves out words like the, and and of that appear in every text, so the interesting ones rise to the top.
  • Two-word phrases counts pairs like coffee beans or customer service, which often say more than single words.
  • Minimum length hides short words and numbers.

The share column shows each word's percentage of all the words counted. Copy the results to get every word as a CSV you can paste into a spreadsheet.

Questions

Is this the same as keyword density?

Close. The share column is each word's percentage of the counted words. With common words skipped, it's measured against the remaining words, not the full word count.

Which words count as common?

About 150 everyday English words like the, and, is, you, we and that. Turn the option off to count everything.

Does it work in other languages?

It counts words in any language. The common-word filter only knows English, so turn it off for other languages.
