How to sort lines
- Paste your list into the first box, one item per line.
- Choose an order. The result updates as you switch.
- Copy the sorted list from the result box.
Natural sorting for numbers
Basic sorting compares text one character at a time, so Chapter 10 lands before Chapter 2 because "1" comes before "2". This tool compares numbers inside the text by their value instead, the way a person would. That's called natural sorting, and it's what you want for file names, chapters, versions and addresses.
The sort orders
- A to Z and Z to A: alphabetical, with accented letters sorted next to their plain versions.
- Shortest first and Longest first: by number of characters. Lines of the same length are sorted alphabetically.
- Reverse: flips the current order without sorting. Handy for logs or lists that are newest-last.
- Shuffle: random order, for picking names, team assignments or quiz questions. Switch away and back to shuffle again.
